The Tenerife Cabildo’s Governing Council has given initial approval for a major renovation project at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium. With a budget of €8,031,966, the project aims to modernise the locker rooms, press room, and access to the pitch, with a timeline of 18 months for completion.
The project will soon be available for public consultation, lasting 20 working days following its publication in the Official Provincial Bulletin. Once the work is awarded, the council will coordinate with CD Tenerife to schedule the renovations, ensuring minimal disruption to the team’s activities.
The renovations will focus on the stadium’s internal areas, redesigning the home and away locker rooms, updating the press room for audiovisual broadcasts, and refurbishing the entrance tunnel to the playing field.
Lope Afonso, the Deputy and Tourism Councillor for the Cabildo, expressed that this investment aims to meet current operational demands, stating, “This approval marks a significant step towards transforming the Heliodoro Rodríguez López into the stadium Tenerife deserves. It strategically modernises the heart of the facility.”
This initiative is part of a comprehensive plan to address ongoing conservation issues within the stadium. In recent years, the facility has faced structural and maintenance challenges, prompting the need for a specific master plan.
Yolanda Moliné, the Insular Sports Councillor, emphasised the importance of the renovations, highlighting that the stadium has suffered from a long-standing lack of maintenance. She stated, “This project is a decisive boost towards providing the club and the Tenerife community with modern and functional facilities.”
Work is expected to begin after the objections period, the public contract tender, and the signing of a preliminary agreement with the chosen contractor.
