The Santa Cruz de Tenerife council has begun work on installing Christmas lights to ensure the town is ready well in advance of the festive season.
Work started three weeks ago and is progressing steadily across various parts of the municipality, with efforts designed to fit in with the city’s daily activities.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez stated, “We want the lights to be a focal point for residents, businesses, and visitors, boosting activity in all neighbourhoods. That’s why we’ve enhanced our planning and expanded the installation to new areas, so that Christmas reaches every district of Santa Cruz.”
Carlos Tarife, the Public Services Councillor, noted that “these efforts mark the first step towards giving Santa Cruz a top-tier Christmas lighting display. We’ve installed the control panels and power lines, which are essential for the system’s proper functioning. Our teams have also been working for weeks to put up the light garlands on the city’s trees.”
He added that, “We’ve planned these works well in advance and coordinated them to proceed simultaneously in both the centre and the districts, minimising disruptions for residents and ensuring everything is ready for the Christmas lighting event.”
Installation has already been completed along the central promenade of the Avenida de Los Majuelos, and work has now moved to the heart of Santa Cruz, where further lighting will be added to the trees.
This year’s campaign features new lighting on the trees along Avenida de Los Majuelos, Rambla Bentacayse in Añaza, Avenida Pedro Schwartz, and Rambla García Escámez. This expansion increases the number of decorated spaces and enhances the Christmas lighting presence in various neighbourhoods.
Overall, the festive lighting will cover more than 600 locations across the municipality. To speed up progress, work is being carried out simultaneously in the city centre and its five districts.
Installation of decorative elements in the Southwest and Ofra-Costa Sur districts is expected to begin before 15 August, while teams will continue to work in the city centre at night. This organisation aims to minimise traffic disruption and ensure smooth movement for vehicles and pedestrians during the installation.
With this schedule, the council is moving forward with preparations for the upcoming festive season, ensuring that all lights are ready and functioning when the celebrations commence.
