Thirty Arrested in Child Exploitation Operation Across Gran Canaria
In a significant police operation named ‘Currican’, 30 individuals have been arrested in connection with the alleged sharing of sexual images involving minors. This operation has led to searches across nine municipalities in Gran Canaria and has extended to El Hierro.
The operation began on Monday under the coordination of the Instruction Section of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria court, and investigations remain ongoing, suggesting that further arrests may occur.
Searches included numerous addresses in Gran Canaria, with 14 in Las Palmas, and additional raids in Arucas (four), Santa Lucía de Tirajana (three), as well as two each in Santa Brígida and Telde. Other searches took place in Teror, Ingenio, Mogán, and San Bartolomé de Tirajana, with one more search executed in El Hierro.
The judiciary is looking into charges related to sexual offences against children under 16, child corruption, and public health violations, while details of the investigation remain confidential.
Over 130 officers from various operational units of the Canarian Police took part, including specialists in child violence, public safety, and judicial support. Due to the operation’s complexity, officers were also mobilised from the Tenerife police station to assist teams in Gran Canaria.
