Lionel Morales, a paratriathlete from Lanzarote, has once again been crowned Spain’s champion in the Paralympic Triathlon, winning in the PTS2 category at a competition held in Mérida, Extremadura, this Saturday.
Morales appears to be in excellent form, having also triumphed in the World Paralympic Triathlon Championship in Hungary a few weeks ago.
He secured victory in Mérida with a time of 1:20:14, followed by Basque athletes A. Oleaga Pájaro in second place with 1:33:07 and O. Garro Antxia in third with 1:35:50.
After the race, Morales reflected on his performance, stating, “Another one for the collection. I’m not sure if that’s twenty-one national championships I’ve won across duathlon and triathlon. The swimming was a bit challenging today with many strong competitors, so I took it easy. I pushed hard on the bike, but experienced some discomfort during the run, so I decided to keep a steady pace. Nonetheless, I finished first while maintaining control throughout the race. I have a World Cup event in Portugal on the 5th, so we’ll see how that goes.”
