Lidia Jubera, head of the department, reported that the weather pattern, which includes tropical humidity, cloud cover, and potential convective activity, creates some uncertainty regarding the temperatures.

The prealert for dust affects the eastern islands, while Gran Canaria and Tenerife are under prealert for maximum temperatures. In Gran Canaria, the alert covers the summits and the eastern, southern, and western slopes. In Tenerife, it concerns the summits and midlands of the southern and western areas, as well as the southern slopes near the metropolitan region.

Additionally, a fire risk alert has been issued for Gran Canaria, particularly for areas above 600 metres in the summits and north-facing slopes, and above 400 metres on eastern, southern, and western slopes. In Tenerife, the alert similarly affects the summits and midlands of the south and west.

Jubera urged local authorities to enact preventive measures tailored to each island’s situation. She also advised the public to exercise caution to prevent activities that could start fires.

In response to the heat, emergency services recommend staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous activities during peak hours, and paying special attention to vulnerable individuals. For those undertaking pilgrimages on foot, it’s critical to carry enough water, avoid the hottest hours, and stop if they experience any signs of exhaustion or dizziness.
