CLOSURE OF GUINIGUADA VIADUCTE FOR REPAIRS
The southbound lane of the Guiniguada viaduct in Gran Canaria will be closed for 14 days from Sunday night for waterproofing work. This follows the early reopening of the northbound section.
Drivers heading towards Telde and southern Gran Canaria will be diverted after Siete Palmas to the GC-23, which leads to the La Ballena tunnels. An alternative route continues through Julio Luengo and Avenida Marítima, reconnecting with the GC-1 to head south.
The waterproofing work covers over 18,000 square metres of the viaduct’s two decks, requiring about 2,500 rolls of asphalt and approximately 120 tonnes of materials, including propane for welding.
This closure is part of a broader upgrade to the GC-3, which includes resurfacing 11 kilometres of the road. The project is valued at €18.72 million and aims to minimise disruption to traffic during construction. The recent northbound reopening allowed traffic flow to resume in that direction.
