La Laguna is celebrating the peak of the Fiestas del Santísimo Cristo de La Laguna today, 14 September, with a packed schedule of religious events, traditional processions, and a fireworks display known as Fuegos del Risco at 11:00 PM. The town centre will host a variety of activities, drawing thousands of devotees and visitors from early morning.
To accommodate the festivities, special traffic measures are in place, including significant road closures on the Vía de Ronda (TF-13) and in the urban centre. Parking restrictions are enforced, and a strengthened service on the Tenerife Tram’s Line 1 will help passengers travel around the island.
The celebrations begin at 7:00 AM with bell ringing across local churches. At 10:00 AM, a civil and military procession will commence from the Town Hall to the Cathedral of La Laguna, featuring the Royal Standard. At 10:45 AM, the local representation of the Royal Family will be welcomed at the Cathedral, where the Mayor of the Royal and Venerable Brotherhood, Eladio Alexis Díaz, will present a silver staff.
Following the 12:00 PM solemn mass, a procession will return the image to its Sanctuary, passing through Plaza de Los Remedios and several streets. In the evening, a choral religious service by the Achamán group will take place at 7:00 PM, leading into a night procession before the fireworks.
Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, the Mayor of La Laguna, highlighted the day’s significance, stating, “Our city celebrates one of its most special days of the year, embracing this event with respect and tradition since morning. These moments of devotion enrich La Laguna’s history and evoke memories for so many generations.”
The town hall has implemented parking restrictions from 7:00 AM on the roads where the procession will occur. Spaces in Plaza del Adelantado, Calle Santo Domingo, and Calle Consistorio are reserved for officials, and the taxi stand in Plaza del Adelantado will relocate to Calle Santo Domingo until 4:00 PM.
Ahead of the fireworks, parking will be prohibited from 5:00 PM on the TF-13, the San Roque Military Road, and Camino de Las Estaciones. Traffic on the TF-13 will be fully closed in both directions from 10:30 PM until the end of the fireworks display.
Metrotenerife will adjust the frequency of Line 1 on the holiday Monday, with trams running every six minutes in the morning and every seven minutes after 3:00 PM. After the fireworks, three additional trams will be available at the Trinidad station to accommodate passengers heading to Santa Cruz.
