The surfing community in Lanzarote came together on Sunday, 13 September, to pay tribute to local surfer Jorge Acosta at Caleta Caballo.

Acosta, 53, tragically drowned while surfing at Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll in the Maldives in May.
Around 150 surfers from Famara, Caleta Caballo, and San Juan participated in a traditional Hawaiian ceremony, forming a circle in the sea, placing a bouquet of flowers in the centre, and sharing heartfelt words to remember their friend.
Acosta had been on a tourist safari boat when he headed to Vaadhoo Island, a well-known surfing destination in the Maldives, to enjoy the waves.
