Pájara Revamps Don Carlos Square and Centenary Avenue in Morro Jable
The Pájara Council officially opened the revitalised Don Carlos Square and Centenary Avenue in Morro Jable yesterday. This significant overhaul aimed at modernising one of the municipality’s busiest areas has been completed with an investment of over €2.6 million.
The project enhanced accessibility, aesthetics, and functionality, reinforcing the area’s appeal as a popular gathering spot for both locals and tourists.
Attendees at the inauguration included Pájara’s Mayor Alejandro Jorge, Fuerteventura Council President Lola García, and various local officials and community members.
Raquel Acosta, Pájara’s Tourism Councillor, highlighted the importance of upgrading public infrastructure to strengthen the town’s status as a tourist destination. She praised the efforts of the Technical Office and the relevant departments involved in the project.
Alexis Alonso, the Councillor for Works, noted that the project had been in the works since the previous term and was crucial for providing quality public spaces for residents and visitors. He acknowledged the professionalism of the construction company, OPC.
Mayor Jorge expressed that the project was highly anticipated by residents and emphasised the necessity of resolving administrative issues to avoid delays.
Lola García praised the Pájara Council’s investment, focusing on making the island’s public spaces more accessible and enhancing tourist quality.
Héctor Mateo, the General Director of Tourism Sustainability, commended the Council’s efforts and offered support for further improvements in tourist infrastructure.
The renovated Don Carlos Square now features updated paving, improved pedestrian areas, spaces for events, new urban furniture, and landscaped areas.
Similarly, the upgrades to Centenary Avenue enhance accessibility and create new leisure spaces, including shaded areas and landscape improvements that better integrate the promenade with the coastal environment.
The Pájara Council remains committed to enhancing and modernising the municipality’s public spaces, aiming to create more accessible and functional environments for residents and visitors alike.
