David Toledo, leader of the Canary Nationalist Parliamentary Group, and Oswaldo Betancort, president of the Lanzarote Cabildo, met with Pablo Rodríguez, the Canary Islands’ Minister for Public Works, Housing, and Mobility. The discussion focused on future improvements for key roads on the island, particularly the Yaiza-Playa Blanca route and the upcoming LZ-40 project.
The officials expressed concerns about heavy traffic and safety issues on the Yaiza-Playa Blanca stretch, stressing the need for urgent action deemed crucial by the Cabildo.
Following the meeting, Rodríguez confirmed the government’s commitment to include the LZ-2 widening project in the Canary Islands-State agreement by the end of the year. Betancort remarked, “This infrastructure is essential for road safety and addressing the growth in the south of the island. Lanzarote can’t keep waiting for a project that has been requested for years.”
Toledo added that the Canary Nationalist Parliamentary Group would continue to support Lanzarote’s infrastructure needs, which are vital for mobility, road safety, and the island’s economic development.
Rodríguez also promised to explore immediate improvements around Playa Blanca and Yaiza while larger infrastructure projects are underway. Both administrations agreed to organise a meeting with the General Traffic Directorate to discuss ways to enhance traffic flow and safety in the area. Betancort called for expedited processes related to the LZ-40 project to ensure its swift progress.
