Arrecife’s Town Hall is set to inaugurate Lanzarote’s first public terrace for family leisure this Thursday, coinciding with a full moon and a lunar eclipse. The terrace, located in the revitalised Plaza del Parque Temático, represents a significant step in enhancing recreational spaces for locals.
Mayor Yonathan de León highlighted the efforts to reclaim the park after securing administrative approval from Costas for the land. “Now that we’ve achieved the concession, we’re moving forward with the park’s revitalisation and will promote various activities for families. In 2027, we will tender a major project for this green lung of Arrecife,” he said.
The opening comes alongside a transformed children’s playground and a series of community events planned by the Department of Tourism and Commerce, led by councillor Eli Merino.
De León provided updates during a press conference about the administrative hurdles faced in reclaiming the area, previously lost during the PSOE’s time in office in 2018. This latest project includes improving the park’s facilities, such as the restoration of long-neglected toilets and enhancing access points.
The public terrace features tropical umbrellas, tables, and seating, and is equipped with new amenities, including food trucks aimed at improving the area’s vibrancy. These efforts align with the town hall’s broader strategy to transform Arrecife into a vibrant hub for shopping, leisure, and events, creating enjoyable public spaces for families to relax and dine on local produce.
