The Spanish Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued a yellow warning for high temperatures across Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura starting today, 14 September. The alert will be in effect from 11:00 to 19:00.
Temperatures are expected to reach up to 35°C, particularly affecting mid-altitude and inland areas. In Gran Canaria, higher temperatures may extend into the northwest and northeast regions.
Fuerteventura and Lanzarote are also under a yellow warning due to dust, with significant concentrations of particulates particularly affecting visibility in inland areas, which may drop below 1,000 metres.
For Tenerife specifically, the forecast suggests mostly clear skies, with some cloud cover along the coasts early in the day. Temperatures in lower areas will range between 30-33°C, and may rise to 34°C in certain southern regions. Winds will be light from the north along the coast, with a slight increase in strength from the south inland.
Across the Canary Islands, conditions are expected to remain mostly clear, with some cloud cover on western islands in the early part of the day. Dust levels will likely be high in lower areas of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, particularly in the morning. Again, maximum temperatures may reach around 34°C in localised inland areas, especially in Gran Canaria. Light winds from the north will prevail along the coasts, with gentle to moderate breezes from the south in interior locations.
