Five boats carrying migrants have reached the Canary Islands of El Hierro and Lanzarote in the early hours of Thursday, September 24. The Canarian Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (112) reported that the boats arrived between Wednesday evening and 5:30 am on Thursday.
During the night, the Las Palmas Rescue Coordination Centre managed the rescue of three vessels with a total of 185 migrants on board—97 in one boat, 42 in another, and 46 in the third—near Arrecife, about 98.1 kilometres (53 nautical miles) northeast of Lanzarote.
The migrants were rescued by the coastguard vessel Urania and taken to Arrecife port, arriving shortly after 5:30 am.
Earlier, at around 7:05 pm on Wednesday, the coastguard vessel Acrux rescued a boat with 77 people about 111 kilometres (60 miles) northeast of Lanzarote.
Another rescue took place on Wednesday afternoon by the Helimer 204, which intercepted a canary boat carrying 167 migrants close to the coast of El Hierro, specifically 29.6 kilometres south of La Restinga.
The coastguard vessel Navia escorted the boat to the port of La Restinga, where medical personnel from the Canary Urgent Service (SUC), Primary Care, and the Red Cross provided assistance. One migrant required transport to a hospital.
