María Jesús Tovar has been appointed as the head of the interim management team for the Lanzarote branch of the Partido Popular (PP). This follows the decision by the regional leadership to replace the current executive led by Astrid Pérez, as confirmed by sources close to Tovar.
Previously serving as the secretary general of the PP in Lanzarote, Tovar will now lead the party through this transitional phase until a congress is held to determine its future direction on the island.
Her appointment comes after an extraordinary and urgent meeting called by the PP’s regional leadership. This meeting addressed the current situation of the party in Lanzarote and formalised the establishment of the interim governing committee.
Pérez acknowledged that her departure marks the end of an era, having been removed from her position as the president of the Lanzarote branch by the party’s regional leadership.
