Thousands of people gathered in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on Wednesday to call for “unity” in response to the crisis in Ceuta and to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.
The demonstration began at 6.30 pm outside the city hall, where the local mayor José Manuel Bermúdez joined the protest. This marked a contrast to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where socialist mayor Carolina Darias did not participate.
Police estimates indicated that at least 3,000 people were present outside the city hall. Meanwhile, supporters for Ceuta gathered in Plaza de España, where the turnout appeared significantly larger.
Slogans chanted included “The united people will never be defeated,” “Pedro Sánchez, resign,” and “To prison, Pedro Sánchez, to prison.”
