The coastal town of Los Cristianos is gearing up for the 102nd edition of the Fiestas in Honour of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, a vibrant celebration steeped in local maritime tradition. The festivities, which began in 1924, are organised by the Commission of Fiestas La Playa en Peso and will showcase a blend of religious observance, fishing traditions, and modern entertainment options.
Events will kick off at the end of August with highlights such as the 11th Fish Fair and a traditional boat pilgrimage, aimed at enlivening the Old Port and the Fisherwoman’s Square. As the week progresses, many activities will take place near the municipal swimming pools, featuring crownings of queens, fun fairs, and lively dance parties.
The first weekend of September is expected to attract the largest crowds. Notably, on Sunday, September 6, traditional games will be held in the bay, alongside a solemn land and sea procession for the revered statue of the Virgin. Following the religious events, the Edén Festival will feature prominent DJs on Chayofita Avenue, ensuring the celebrations continue into the night.
