Lanzarote’s Cabildo and La Graciosa have put out to tender the upgrades for the Insular Centre for Musical Studies (CIEM) located on Rambla Medular in Arrecife.
The project has a budget of €456,587.98, including tax, and is co-funded by the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN).
Improvements will bring the building up to current regulations, focusing on accessibility, fire safety, and evacuation procedures.
Vice President and Councillor for Planning and Projects, María Jesús Tovar, stated that this tender is a step towards enhancing a public facility used daily by students, teachers, and families. She noted, “This project will ensure the centre meets today’s safety and accessibility standards and can provide services under better conditions.”
Tovar confirmed that funding is already secured and that the work is expected to take six months once awarded.
Councillor for Culture, Jesús Machín, emphasised the importance of the infrastructure to the island’s music education. He remarked, “The CIEM provides educational and cultural activities that necessitate facilities appropriate for their usage and the number of people involved.”
Key enhancements will improve evacuation routes, update fire safety systems, and adapt communal areas, restrooms, and entrances.
The project prioritises the needs of individuals with reduced mobility and includes materials that facilitate future maintenance of the facilities.
The tender is open for bids until 7 September 2026 at 10:00 via the Public Sector Procurement Platform.
