Lanzarote celebrated the arrival of Weñesmed 2026, a traditional festival marking a time of harvest and community. The festivities took place under August’s full moon, coinciding with the first appearance of the star Canopus, signalling a new lunar cycle.
Nicolás Cabrera, president of the Insular Management of Liberación Canaria, recalled how these days were traditionally filled with gatherings, dances, banquets, and the sharing of a deep-rooted cultural heritage. He emphasized the significance of these celebrations as a means of preserving community ties and memories from the past.
With heartfelt wishes of “Felicidades. Ahul. Weñesmed,” the event underscored the importance of maintaining ancestral traditions in the face of modern challenges.
