A fire alert remains in effect across Tenerife and Gran Canaria, as announced by the Canary Islands Government on Thursday, 13th August. This warning is due to the high temperatures expected in the coming days.
Emergency services have reported that a small fire near a petrol station in Valle Tabares, La Laguna, Tenerife, has been brought under control. The local police stated on social media that residents evacuated as a precaution can now return to their homes.
The Tenerife Cabildo confirmed to Europa Press that the fire spread to an upper slope due to winds. Ground teams, along with a helicopter from Brifor, were deployed to cool the affected area.
The fire alert was communicated to the Canary Islands’ Security and Emergency Coordination Centre (Cecoes) at 11.16 am on Friday, leading to the mobilization of local police, national police forces, firefighters, and aerial units from the Tenerife Cabildo.
In Tenerife, temperatures have soared above 30°C in the southern and western slopes, with isolated areas potentially hitting 34°C. Meanwhile, El Hierro, La Palma, and La Gomera are on pre-alert status for forest fire risks.
