Lanzarote and La Graciosa’s local government is launching a free olive collection and processing campaign starting Monday, 10 August. The initiative, managed by the Agriculture Department, aims to support local farmers by processing their olives into oil.
Farmers wishing to participate must apply in person at the Agricultural Experimental Farm between 08:00 and 13:00 on weekdays. The application period runs until 28 August, and queries can be directed to 928 598 500, extension 3600.
Cabildo President and Agriculture Councillor Oswaldo Betancort stated the campaign provides essential support to local producers, enhancing the value of local agricultural production and diversifying the primary sector.
To access the service, each farmer must supply at least 300 kilos of clean olives, free from leaves, dirt, and other debris. If pesticides are used, they must be recorded officially, adhering to the manufacturer’s safety deadlines.
While the olive processing is free, farmers will need to cover the costs of necessary analyses to ensure the safety and quality of the oil produced.
Betancort encouraged all producers to participate within the deadline, emphasising the importance of olive farming in diversifying Lanzarote’s agriculture.
