Youth Day Celebrations in El Cotillo on 15 August
To mark International Youth Day, the Cabildo of Fuerteventura is hosting a series of activities in El Cotillo on 15 August. The event will take place at Muelle Chico from 12:00 to 21:00 and will feature free offerings, including music, sports, and water activities aimed at recognising the role of youth in society.
Lola García, President of the Cabildo, emphasised the importance of youth for the island’s development. She stated, “Young people are a key component for the island’s growth and deserve spaces to share experiences, express creativity, and actively participate in social life. This event celebrates an international date that focuses on the talent and potential of new generations.”
The programme includes a Gaming Challenge, aquatic activities, ambient music, a foam cannon, and a live performance by Marta Umpiérrez. While primarily aimed at young people, the event encourages participation from the entire community.
Adargoma Hernández, the Councillor for Education and Youth, highlighted that International Youth Day provides an opportunity to showcase the ability of young people to shape society and recognise their engagement in Fuerteventura’s present and future. He expressed a desire to celebrate the day with an engaging, participative, and accessible event that fosters connections among youth from different municipalities in the picturesque setting of El Cotillo.
This celebration is part of the annual programme by the Cabildo’s Youth Department, aimed at promoting youth engagement and providing cultural and recreational activities for the island’s younger population.
