Tenerife’s Water Reservoirs Start August at 55.3% Capacity
Tenerife’s water reservoirs, managed by the public company BALTEN, are currently at 55.3% capacity, according to Valentín González, the Canary Island’s Primary Sector Councillor. He reported that the total volume stored is 2,785,528 cubic metres, which is nearly 400,000 cubic metres more than last year’s figure for the same date.
González noted that this year’s water levels are more favourable for meeting irrigation needs during the summer months compared to 2025. The current levels represent an increase of 393,392 cubic metres since August 1st, 2025.
The distribution of water across the island remains typical, with the northern region at 61.4% capacity, holding 2,107,886 cubic metres, while the southern reservoirs sit at 42.2% capacity with 677,642 cubic metres on hand.
Despite the seasonal rise in agricultural irrigation demands and higher temperatures, González assured that Tenerife’s water storage system is in a better position this summer than last year, ensuring adequate supply for the island’s agricultural sector.
