Lack of Representation at Sports Coordination Meeting Raises Concerns
Coalición Canaria (CC) Haría has expressed dismay over the absence of Haría’s council at a key sports coordination meeting held at the Lanzarote and La Graciosa Cabildo on Friday. The meeting brought together representatives from the Canary Government, the islands’ council, and local sports officials to discuss major events for the upcoming season.
Topics included the coordination of the island’s sports calendar, the inaugural Lanzarote Sports Fair, and participation in ExpoDeca 2026. The assembly also highlighted the ‘Abuelos Conejeros’ Wood Bowling Tournament, set to take place in Haría, and the launch of the 35th Ironman Lanzarote.
CC Haría deemed it unacceptable that Haría was the only municipality without representation at this vital meeting, which is crucial for the future of sports on the island. They pointed out that this has happened before, leaving residents without a voice at important gatherings.
The party emphasised Haría’s significant sporting potential, attributed to its natural surroundings and the numerous events it hosts annually. They are urging the council to ensure its presence in decision-making forums that directly impact local clubs and athletes.
CC Haría lamented the “worrying lack of involvement” by the socialist government in advocating for local interests in collaborative spaces, suggesting this behaviour fosters an image of institutional isolation that could hinder opportunities for Haría.
