New Scholarships for La Orotava Students
La Orotava Council has launched a new round of scholarships for the 2026-2027 academic year in partnership with the European University of the Canary Islands. The programme aims to help local residents access higher education by providing financial support for tuition fees.
This year’s initiative offers 20 subsidised places. Of these, five scholarships will cover 50% of tuition costs, while 15 students will receive a 10% discount directly applied by the university.
The scholarships are available exclusively to first-year students enrolled in official degree programmes at the university. However, some courses, such as Medicine, Dentistry, and certain nursing degrees, are not included in this scheme.
To apply, candidates must meet three key requirements: they must have resided in La Orotava for at least a year, achieved an average grade of 6 for undergraduate courses, and a 6.5 for master’s programmes.
Applications open on Monday, 27 July, and will close on 27 August. Applicants need to submit basic family documentation, including ID copies, family books (if applicable), academic transcripts, and tax declarations for 2025. Documents can be submitted in person by appointment or via the municipal electronic platform.
These scholarships are made possible through an annual agreement between the La Orotava Council and the European University of the Canary Islands, aimed at enhancing educational opportunities for local youth.
The European University has operated in La Orotava since the 2012-2013 academic year and is the first private higher education institution in the Canaries, offering over 35 programmes, both in-person and online, across various fields including Health Sciences and Architecture.
The La Orotava campus hosts several degree programmes, including Psychology and Nursing, along with postgraduate qualifications in General Health Psychology and Emergency Nursing. It is also home to a simulated hospital, while new courses in Medicine and Dentistry are set to launch this academic year. The remaining programmes are offered on the Santa Cruz de Tenerife campus.
The university’s educational model focuses on innovation, internationalisation, and employability, emphasising experiential learning and professional skills development.
