Weather Alert Issued for Canary Islands
The Canary Islands Government has declared a pre-alert for high temperatures in Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, and Tenerife, effective from 11:00 on Thursday, 23 July 2026.
This decision comes following guidance from the State Meteorological Agency and other sources, in line with the Specific Emergency Plan for Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA).
Affected Areas:
The alert covers the southern half of Fuerteventura, the east, south, west, and high points of Gran Canaria, as well as the metropolitan area and southern regions of Tenerife.
Temperature Predictions:
Temperatures are expected to rise, particularly in the interior, mid-altitudes, and higher areas. Fuerteventura could see temperatures hit 30-32 degrees Celsius in the southeast, while Gran Canaria may exceed 34 degrees Celsius in elevated regions, with local lows in the southeast reaching 37 degrees. Tenerife is forecasted to reach 30-32 degrees Celsius in its southern mid-altitudes and metropolitan areas, with localised highs of 34 degrees possible.
