New Political Era Begins in Lanzarote with First Meeting of NC-BC
The newly established Insular Council of New Canarias-Canary Block (NC-BC) in Lanzarote and La Graciosa held its first work meeting, marking the start of a political phase aimed at “Recovering Lanzarote” in the May 2027 elections and restoring the Cabildo Insular’s commitment to serving the public interest.
Led by Belén Machín, the council focused on the historic opportunity for the Lanzarote community to reclaim its island identity. The aim is to reaffirm local roots and promote a lifestyle that values Lanzarote as a home worthy of protection and care for its residents.
The meeting highlighted the urgent need for a politically-driven project closely tied to the island’s reality, addressing the social, territorial, economic, and environmental challenges it faces through a balanced, sustainable, and people-centred development model.
The council tasked Canary parliamentarian Yoné Caraballo, who is also a candidate for the Cabildo presidency, to build an inclusive, participatory movement that brings together individuals, community groups, and social and political organisations committed to the island’s future.
NC-BC believes Lanzarote is at a pivotal moment, requiring a new political direction grounded in dialogue, participation, and the protection of its natural and cultural heritage.
The Insular Council is set to create a roadmap that combines structured work with ongoing engagement across all municipalities, fostering dialogue to rebuild citizens’ trust and usher in a new historical cycle by May 2027.
