69-Year-Old Man Arrested for Suspected Arson in Masca
On 18 July, a 69-year-old man from Icod de los Vinos was arrested by the Guardia Civil, suspected of starting a fire in the Masca area. The alarm was raised around 12:30 PM due to reports of flames in the region.
Thanks to the swift action of the officers, the suspect was apprehended within two hours of the fire starting. Official reports indicate he may have ignited two separate fires in the natural area.
A helicopter from the GES (Emergency Services Group) was deployed to assist with extinguishing the flames at the request of CECOPIN (Emergency Coordination Centre) in Tenerife.
Both fire outbreaks have now been declared extinguished, though emergency teams remain on-site to ensure the area is secure and prevent any re-ignition.
The Guardia Civil confirmed that the arrested individual will face court action once the investigation is complete.
