The Santa Cruz City Council has approved a £152,000 urban development plan for the Ofra-Costa Sur district. This initiative, part of the Urban Boost programme, focuses on improving parking at Los Príncipes and several key streets: Izquierdo Azcárate, Senda Trasera, and Sansón y Barrios.
The planned works will involve replacing the road surface and updating signage, aiming to enhance safety and functionality in these areas. Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez stressed the importance of ensuring improvements reach all corners of the city, not just the centre. He highlighted that over the next four years, an investment of more than £100 million will be made to maintain streets and parking, improving safety and accessibility for residents.
Public Services Councillor Carlos Tarife noted that £152,974 has been allocated specifically to enhance the daily-used streets and parking, emphasizing increased road safety for both pedestrians and drivers. A significant portion of this budget, £82,764, will target the Los Príncipes parking area, which is one of the busiest in the region.
The initiative will take four months and aims to repair the parking surface, addressing cracks and deformities that currently disrupt traffic and contribute to water accumulation. Additionally, horizontal signage will be updated, increasing parking spaces from 60 to 130.
District Councillor Santiago Díaz Mejías stated that the aim of these works is to restore roads that have significantly deteriorated over time.
Further improvements are planned, including:
– £28,469 for the Izquierdo Azcárate parking area to correct surface wear and enhance rainwater drainage.
– £27,991 for repairs on Senda Trasera, addressing cracks to boost safety and parking organisation.
– £13,749 for road rehabilitation on Sansón y Barrios to eliminate surface deformities and improve road grip and signage.
