Tenerife Signs American Centre Ethan Happ for Two Seasons
Tenerife Basket has announced the signing of American centre Ethan Happ for two seasons. The 30-year-old, standing at 2.08 metres, joins from Recoletas San Pablo Burgos, aiming to bolster the team’s interior strength.
In a statement on their website, the club noted that Happ has played 100 official matches in Spain’s top basketball league, the ACB. Last season with Burgos, he averaged 12.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.2 assists over 25 games.
Happ led the league in steals, averaging 1.9 per game, and ranked sixth in overall efficiency throughout the tournament.
He honed his skills in American college basketball with Wisconsin from 2015 to 2019, scoring over 2,000 points and grabbing more than 1,000 rebounds. His talent earned him prestigious awards, including the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award and the Pete Newell Big Man Award.
Following his college career, Happ played professionally in Europe, featuring for Olympiakos in Greece, various teams in Italy, and MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg in Germany. He also holds North Macedonian nationality and competes internationally for the country. He made his Spanish league debut with Río Breogán during the 2022/23 season, where he became the national league’s leading rebounder before moving to Dreamland Gran Canaria and reuniting with his current coach, Jaka Lakovic.
This transfer aims to strengthen Tenerife’s squad after Happ’s recent spells at Valencia Basket and Burgos. His overall averages in Spain stand at 12 points and 6.3 rebounds per game, complemented by 2.1 assists and 1.9 steals, leading to a notable average rating of 15.8 per match.
