Exhibition Showcases Light Art in Yaiza
Rosa García’s photography exhibition, titled “Yaiza es luz,” opened at the Casa de la Cultura Benito Pérez Armas, featuring 28 striking images, primarily captured around Lanzarote’s Yaiza municipality. The works, created using light painting techniques without AI or photo manipulation, aim to evoke emotion and deeper understanding of the island’s hidden stories.
The exhibition kicked off this Thursday, attended by César Rijo, Yaiza’s Cultural Councillor. García expressed her hope that visitors will see the stories behind every corner of Lanzarote. Each artwork title forms a chapter of a larger narrative, highlighting the beauty of places like Salinas de Janubio and Timanfaya, while also addressing poignant themes such as immigration.
Irma Echeverría, a guest journalist, noted García’s artistic roots—her mother was a photographer, and her father a poet, both linked to Yaiza. The exhibition also showcases handcrafted lanterns and other luminous creations designed by García to illustrate unique forms visible only through long exposure photography.
The exhibition runs until 12 August, open Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 13:30 and 17:00 to 20:00, with Saturday hours from 10:00 to 13:00. Guided tours, masterclasses, and two-day workshops on light painting will also take place on 7 and 8 August. Local residents interested in participating can register by emailing [email protected].
