The Supreme Court’s public prosecutor has closed the investigation into María Dolores Corujo, a Labour Party MP for Las Palmas and secretary of the Lanzarote PSOE, concluding there are no grounds for criminal charges.
The prosecutor’s decree, released on Wednesday, mandates the immediate filing of the case, initially prompted by a complaint from Oswaldo Betancort, the nationalist president of the Lanzarote Cabildo, as reported by the Socialist Party.
The complaint related to actions linked to the so-called Juan Manuel Sosa case, which has influenced various administrative and political actions in recent months.
Following the ruling, Corujo expressed her relief and stated that she always believed the complaint was politically motivated. She claimed the prosecutor’s decree confirms that the actions under investigation did not constitute a crime.
Corujo also noted that in January 2026, the Cabildo appointed David Montes, a lawyer connected to the Coalición Canaria, as director of the presidency, which led to the review that sparked the complaint against her.
She is now contemplating potential legal actions concerning both the complaint and the public dissemination of details of the case in recent months.
The prosecutor’s decision halts the criminal investigation into the matter, as it found the reported facts did not warrant further proceedings. The case had led to a political war of words between PSOE and Coalición Canaria representatives in Lanzarote. With the investigation now closed, Corujo intends to assess her next steps regarding the dismissed case.
