Running from July to December, the workshops will provide sessions combining physical activity, cognitive stimulation, and training on healthy habits. Participants will enjoy a space for learning, engagement, and community building.

Scheduled for two sessions a week, each lasting two hours, the programme includes adapted exercises, cognitive activities, and informative talks on relevant topics. These initiatives aim to promote active ageing, combat isolation, and maintain the independence of older participants.

Originally designed for users of the AlGolpito project in Las Palmas, these workshops mark a significant step in the foundation’s commitment to fostering healthy lifestyle habits and overall well-being for the elderly. The initiative is funded by the Canary Islands’ Ministry of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Childhood, and Families.

First Session at Las Canteras Beach

The workshops kick off this Wednesday at Las Canteras Beach, where participants from the Ciudad Alta Senior Centre will join a healthy habits workshop led by specialist instructors. This session will blend adapted physical activities with participatory dynamics, all set in an open-air environment aimed at encouraging a healthier lifestyle.

These workshops aim to provide a fun and social approach to ageing, thereby improving the quality of life for those over 60. They also focus on fostering personal autonomy, stimulating cognitive abilities, and creating learning opportunities around health and well-being.

By adding these workshops, the AlGolpito project continues to serve as a vital tool for promoting health and social participation, leveraging sport to alleviate isolation and encourage active ageing.

Community Gathering Planned for July 15

On 15 July, the UD Las Palmas Foundation will host a community gathering at La Graciosa for AlGolpito teams from Arrecife, Haría, and La Graciosa. The event will feature walking football and various activities to encourage social interaction among participants.

This gathering is particularly significant as it will be the first time the eighth island hosts such an event, providing a meeting point for the project’s teams. The tournament aims to foster connections, promote socialising, and allow participants to enjoy themselves while using sport to support active ageing and well-being.

Through these initiatives, the UD Las Palmas Foundation continues to advance the AlGolpito project, reaffirming its dedication to promoting healthy living habits and enhancing the quality of life for older adults.
