The Council of La Laguna is working to recover its computer systems following a major cyberattack that occurred on Monday. Authorities are currently implementing security protocols to assess the attack and create a safe environment for gradually restoring services.
Since the unprecedented incident, measures have been taken to strengthen security, improve infrastructure, and mitigate potential consequences. While it remains unclear whether any personal data has been compromised, residents are advised to be cautious and follow these guidelines:
- Be wary of suspicious communications, including emails, SMS, or phone calls that request personal information or banking details, especially those mentioning the council or municipal services.
- Do not share passwords or verification codes. The council will never ask for these via email, SMS, or phone.
- Change passwords regularly and use different credentials for various services, particularly for email accounts and other platforms containing personal information.
- Enable multi-factor authentication whenever possible for added security.
For data protection inquiries, residents can contact the Data Protection Officer at [email protected].
The council also continues to offer in-person services, albeit with some restrictions. Deadlines for ongoing applications have been extended to prevent disruption for those currently undergoing processes. Some online services, such as accessing the municipal register and obtaining residency certificates for travel, remain available.
The council will provide regular updates on the situation and its return to normal operations.
