Corralejo is set to welcome over 200 kite enthusiasts from around the globe for its 39th International Kite Festival, scheduled from 9 to 15 November. The skies above Corralejo and El Cotillo will once again be filled with vibrant colours as locals and visitors gather for this much-anticipated event, organised by La Oliva Town Hall, in partnership with the Fuerteventura Council and the Canary Islands Government.

This year’s festival introduces an exciting new feature: the largest drone show in the Canary Islands to date, which will light up the bay on the evenings of 13 and 14 November. In addition to the drone display, attendees can look forward to a range of activities that have become the festival’s hallmark. These include a day dedicated to astroscience, a giant puppet park, and the second edition of the ‘Kitefestival’ quick painting competition.

La Oliva’s Mayor, Isaí Blanco, has invited both residents and tourists to join the festivities. “We encourage our neighbours and visitors to enjoy these special days with family at the beaches of Corralejo and El Cotillo. This event retains the charm of its inaugural edition while evolving year on year,” he stated.

David Fajardo, the Councillor for Tourism and the Environment, emphasised the event’s international appeal, underscoring the dedication of kite flyers who converge on the municipality’s beaches each November. He also highlighted the festival’s commitment to environmental preservation, mentioning measures like environmental guides, perimeter fencing, ecological toilets, and workshops aimed at protecting the local landscape.

Marlene Figueroa, the Tourism Councillor for the Fuerteventura Council, described the event as highly anticipated and noted its significant environmental awareness component.

Ignacio Solana, the managing director of Gesprotur representing the Canary Islands Government’s Tourism and Employment Ministry, confirmed the administration’s strong support. “The International Kite Festival is not just a top-tier event; it promotes a sustainable and socially responsible tourism model designed for a diverse audience, all within a family-friendly environment,” he remarked.
