A five-year-old boy is in critical condition after nearly drowning in a hotel pool in Yaiza, Lanzarote, on Thursday. The incident occurred around 12:46 PM when emergency services were alerted to a child showing signs of drowning and in cardiac arrest, according to 1-1-2 Canarias.
Guests and staff, including a lifeguard and a doctor, began resuscitation efforts immediately after he was pulled from the water. When paramedics from the SUC arrived, they continued advanced resuscitation measures and successfully restored his pulse.
Once stabilised, the child was airlifted in a medical helicopter to the Hospital Universitario Materno Infantil in Gran Canaria, landing near the hotel. The Lanzarote fire brigade assisted with the landing and take-off of the helicopter.
