The council of Granadilla de Abona has approved a grant of €20,000 to Parkinson Tenerife and signed a new collaboration agreement with the organisation. This initiative aims to enhance support for individuals with Parkinson’s disease and their families in areas such as care, rehabilitation, and guidance.
Rubén García Casañas, head of the Social Services department, stated that this agreement underscores the local government’s commitment to creating “a Granadilla that cares, more connected and dedicated to families and their needs.” It will also strengthen specialist support for caregivers.
García Casañas noted that these grants are part of a municipal funding scheme for the third sector, aimed at organisations that provide resources and assistance to vulnerable individuals and families facing particularly challenging situations. He emphasised the vital role of public administrations in supporting these groups, whose work often offers essential backing to those needing care and direction.
The councillor praised the daily efforts of social organisations and highlighted the importance of working closely with them to ensure the continuity of programmes addressing diverse social needs within the municipality.
The new agreement with Parkinson Tenerife also includes initiatives aimed at raising awareness of the condition and fostering greater public understanding of the challenges faced by those with Parkinson’s and their caregivers.
Nayra González, director of Parkinson Tenerife, expressed appreciation for the council’s support, stating that “these initiatives are fundamental; they motivate us to grow as an organisation and provide support to the families we serve.” She added that one of the organisation’s goals is to develop a centre that would better serve individuals affected by Parkinson’s in southern Tenerife, thus improving access to specialised resources for families.
The council highlighted that its partnership with Parkinson Tenerife would strengthen the social support network and solidify resources for those in need of specialised assistance, ensuring the municipality remains sensitive and responsive to the social realities of its residents.
