Weather Forecast for the Canary Islands: Strong Winds and Rising Temperatures Expected
The Canary Islands are anticipating a Wednesday of stable weather, with increasing temperatures in inland areas and strong gusts from trade winds. According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), southern parts of the archipelago will enjoy mostly clear skies, while the north will be overcast with low cloud during the morning.
Temperatures are set to climb in mid-altitude regions and on higher peaks, particularly in the Tejeda basin and the southern and western parts of Gran Canaria, where highs may reach 32°C. Tenerife will see temperatures around 30°C in the southern mid-altitudes and lower metropolitan areas.
Wind Predictions and Possible Drizzle
The standout feature of the day is likely to be the north-easterly trade wind, which is expected to intensify in the afternoon, especially across the south-east and north-western regions of the islands. Aemet warns of potentially very strong gusts affecting areas in Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura’s Jandía peninsula, the far south-east of Tenerife, La Gomera, and the channels between the islands.
In the north of the islands, morning cloud cover might bring light drizzle in mid-altitude areas but is expected to clear by midday. Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will mostly see clear skies, with only some higher-level cloud.
On the water, a north or north-easterly wind forecast indicates force 4 or 5, strengthening to force 6 further offshore. High waves between one and two metres are expected, with strong swells impacting much of the archipelago.
