Arucas Temporarily Suspends Waste Collection Due to Fire
The Arucas council in Gran Canaria has halted the collection of bulky items from designated locations following a fire at the Juan Grande landfill in San Bartolomé de Tirajana on 7 August.
The council announced this suspension will last at least until the end of this week. They stated that as soon as the island authorities confirm the landfill is operational again, normal collection services for furniture and large items will resume.
Residents are urged to refrain from leaving bulky items on the streets to avoid congestion during this period. The council highlighted that, due to the ongoing situation beyond their control, these items cannot be collected.
In related news, the Gran Canaria government warned of delays in waste collection services as they have temporarily diverted operations to a northern landfill while work continues to restore the Ecoparque Sur after the fire. Efforts are underway to clear the impacted areas within the Ecoparque, with special care being taken due to the hazardous nature of the cleanup.
