First Flight from Gran Canaria to Italy Under New Border Controls Takes Off Smoothly
The first flight from Gran Canaria to Italy since new border controls were imposed departed without incident on Saturday. Ryanair flight RYR-5823 left for Rome-Fiumicino at 10:20 AM, ten minutes ahead of schedule.
Passengers arrived at the airport check-in counter more than two hours early, which made the process quicker and aligned with airline recommendations for international travel.
Most of the young travellers in line were Italian, including Giuseppe and Emilia, who told us they were not warned about the new border regulations, effective from midnight on Saturday. They seemed largely unconcerned about the changes.
Despite inquiries, the Spanish government did not respond regarding additional measures to facilitate these new bureaucratic requirements. Aena, the airport authority, also declined to comment, stating the matter was outside their jurisdiction.
