Calls for Action as Puerto del Carmen Development Plan Delayed Again
The Partido Popular (PP) in Tías has launched a scathing attack on the PSOE and Podemos-led local government after an extraordinary council meeting on Thursday aimed at amending the III Modernisation Plan for Puerto del Carmen. The PP has branded the plan, vital for the area’s economic future, as having stagnated after seven years of delay.
Party leader Francisco Aparicio voiced his frustrations, stating it was “unacceptable” for such an important document to repeatedly return for corrections, showcasing what he sees as a significant lack of planning and management. He lamented that what could have been a pivotal moment for Puerto del Carmen had devolved into a “bureaucratic nightmare” due to the government’s inefficacy.
Aparicio accused the coalition of misleading the public by claiming that a modernisation plan was already in place, only for the council to revisit the document again for further amendments. “The reality speaks for itself,” he said.
The PP highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by the local tourism sector, which has been awaiting the final approval of this crucial plan for years. Business owners have endured continuous setbacks, with delays and errors adding to their frustration.
Aparicio asserted that this latest urgent meeting exemplifies the failures of the current administration, emphasising the necessity of a robust urban and tourist development strategy for Puerto del Carmen, one the government has repeatedly touted as a success despite its ongoing revisions.
