Airfare Between Canary Islands Set to Increase by Up to 9.5% on August 1
The Spanish Ministry of Transport has announced an increase in reference prices for publicly regulated air routes between the Canary Islands, effective from Saturday, August 1. This change follows the publication of Order TRM/789/2026 in the Official State Gazette.
Of the thirteen regulated routes, ten will see fare increases ranging from 3.4% to 9.5%. In contrast, three routes will retain their current prices. On average, reference fares will rise by around 5% compared to the rates in effect since October 2024. For local residents, most routes will result in just over a euro increase per ticket.
Highest Price Hike: Tenerife to La Palma
The steepest increase is for the Tenerife North to La Palma route, which will rise from €84 to €92, marking a 9.5% increase. Other notable hikes include Gran Canaria to Lanzarote, up 8% from €100 to €108, and Tenerife North to El Hierro, which will increase from €89 to €96 (7.9% rise). Gran Canaria to Fuerteventura will see fares jump from €90 to €97, a 7.8% increase.
Additional fare increments include Gran Canaria to Tenerife North (up from €84 to €90, a 7.1% increase) and Tenerife North to Lanzarote (from €124 to €132, a 6.5% increase). Meanwhile, the Tenerife North to Fuerteventura route will increase from €121 to €128, a rise of 5.8%.
Moderate Increases
Moderate increases are noted for the La Palma to Lanzarote route (up from €131 to €136, a 3.8% rise) and Gran Canaria to Tenerife South (from €87 to €90, a 3.4% rise). The routes between Gran Canaria and La Palma, Gran Canaria and La Gomera, and Tenerife North and La Gomera will maintain their current fares of €114, €112, and €84, respectively.
With these updates, fares will now range from €84 for Tenerife North to La Gomera to €136 for La Palma to Lanzarote. The comprehensive fare structure includes €90 for the two Gran Canaria to Tenerife connections, €97 for Gran Canaria to Fuerteventura, €133 for Gran Canaria to El Hierro, €108 for Gran Canaria to Lanzarote, €128 for Tenerife North to Fuerteventura, €96 for Tenerife North to El Hierro, €132 for Tenerife North to Lanzarote, and €92 for Tenerife North to La Palma.
Cost Justification
The Ministry cited increased operational costs incurred by airlines as the reason for the fare increases. This adjustment aims to ensure the financial sustainability of inter-island routes and maintain the established quality, frequency, and capacity for services deemed essential.
