Maspalomas Costa Canaria Soul Festival Draws Crowds for Second Night of Soul Music
The Playa de San Agustín buzzed with life on Saturday as thousands flocked to the second day of the X Maspalomas Costa Canaria Soul Festival, celebrating its tenth anniversary. The event showcased prominent black music artists, reaffirming its international reputation.
As the sun set over the Atlantic, festival-goers from Gran Canaria, mainland Spain, and various European countries gathered for a night filled with soul, unity, and a shared love for live music.
The evening kicked off with Dr. Wampush, who set the tone with a captivating mix of soul classics, rhythm and blues rarities, and carefully selected funk tracks.
The first performance featured American soul legend John Ellison, best known for his hit ‘Some Kind of Wonderful.’ His elegant and heartfelt rendition captivated the audience.
At 10:00 PM, the Memphis Music Hall of Fame Band, led by Kurt Clayton, unleashed the powerful sound of Memphis. Just ten minutes later, Shunta Mosby, Dani McGhee, and Candy Fox joined the stage for an electrifying show that thrilled attendees.
Karen Wolfe followed, her strong voice and stage presence winning over the crowd with a set filled with soul, gospel, rhythm and blues, and funk.
The night reached a high point with Lenny Williams, whose sophisticated performance culminated in a rousing rendition of “Because I Love You,” earning him a standing ovation.
The festival concluded the night with its traditional Grand Finale, bringing all the Saturday’s artists back on stage—Ellison, Wolfe, Williams, Mosby, McGhee, and Fox—alongside the Memphis Music Hall of Fame Band. Together, they performed several classic soul songs, creating an unforgettable atmosphere of emotion and celebration, a hallmark of the festival’s history.
The second day confirmed the Maspalomas Costa Canaria Soul Festival’s place among Europe’s premier soul events. As it gears up for its closing day, the festival remains dedicated to bringing top international soul acts to Playa de San Agustín, promoting Maspalomas and Gran Canaria as cultural destinations.
