Carmen Pérez has officially announced her candidacy for the PP in the Santa Cruz de Tenerife mayoral election, attracting a large crowd. The current CEO of the city’s Development Society, she is set to challenge Carlos Tarife, the first deputy mayor, for the position.
The event, held at TEA, featured appearances by national PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo and regional president Manuel Domínguez. In her emotional speech, Pérez, who teared up while mentioning her son, introduced herself as “the candidate for change,” aiming to unlock the city’s potential and establish it as a leader in the Canary Islands.
Pérez recounted her transition from law to politics, driven by a desire to serve the community. She emphasised the need for decisiveness in defending Santa Cruz’s interests, thanking Tarife for laying the foundations of the party in the area. She declared herself “Commander Pérez” in front of Feijóo and asserted his commitment to protecting the Canary Islands as Spain’s future president.
Feijóo praised Pérez’s dedication to Santa Cruz, describing her as hardworking and passionate, and reaffirmed the PP’s unwavering commitment to the islands. He thanked Tarife for his continued contribution to the party and outlined his plan to tackle corruption if elected, including a promise to ban pardons for corrupt officials.
Moreover, Domínguez lauded Pérez as a “breath of fresh air” for the party, highlighting her choice to prioritise Santa Cruz over her previous legal career.
