Summer Sailing Courses for Children and Families in Tenerife
The Tenerife Council, alongside the Tenerife Island Sailing Federation, is launching sailing courses this summer in Garachico and Las Teresitas beach, Santa Cruz. Funded by the Council’s Sports Department, the ‘Escuela Itinerante DXT’ programme is designed for children aged 7 to 15 and runs until August 28 in Garachico. In Las Teresitas, sessions for families will be held every Friday until September 4.
Yolanda Moliné, the Tenerife Sports Councillor, visited the workshops at Garachico’s port on July 14, where she met participants and praised the instructors. She was joined by the town’s mayor, José Heriberto González, and other representatives from the sailing federation to assess the facilities hosting the summer courses.
The initiative, which started on June 29, offers nine weeks of beginner sailing training from Monday to Friday, 9 am to 2 pm. Each week accommodates up to 20 participants, providing access to both group and individual sailboats, as well as experienced trainers.
Plans are also underway for a permanent Municipal Sailing School in Garachico to continue the sporting promotion initiated by the mobile school.
In Las Teresitas, the sailing federation is providing beginner courses for families on Fridays from 10 am to 1 pm. These sessions will use collective boats, ideal for learning basic sailing skills, and will run until September 4. Groups of six will be formed, with the requirement that participants can swim and that at least one adult accompanies younger attendees.
