Caribbean Music Festival Kicks Off in Santa Cruz
The Tenerife Cook Music Fest launched today in Santa Cruz’s Port Zone, transforming the area into a vibrant celebration rather than just another formal event. Organisers expect over 100,000 attendees from July 16 to 18, marking this as the largest private event ever held in the Canary Islands.
The day’s excitement was driven by musical heavyweights Olga Tañón and Emily Estefan. Supported by local officials and the media, the artists made it clear that the festival promises to be more than just a gathering; it aims to leave a lasting impact on the island.
“The World Needs Joy”
During a press conference, Tañón expressed her delight at the festival’s evolution, saying, “I’m thrilled to see how it has grown; it’s a privilege to be part of such an amazing event.” Estefan echoed her sentiments, describing the festival as a refreshing source of joy that showcases Latino pride.
A Boost for Tenerife
While music is at the festival’s heart, its true impact stems from the local community. Promoter José María de la Cova has invested nearly €9 million, expressing pride in reaching the fifth anniversary with the biggest event ever held in the Canaries.
José Manuel Bermúdez, the local mayor, highlighted the festival’s economic benefits, stating it will create around 600 jobs, predominantly for young locals entering the workforce. Meanwhile, Rosa Dávila, president of the Cabildo, referred to the festival’s return of over €10 million from last year as a vital contributor to the city’s life and a testament to the cultural ties between Tenerife and Puerto Rico.
A Musical Funfair by the Sea
The event takes place over more than 60,000 square meters, featuring a massive stage that triples in size from previous years, alongside entertainment amenities like a giant Ferris wheel, markets, and a gastronomic area with over 20 culinary offerings.
Major sponsors, including Dorada, Binter, and Hyundai, have supported this extensive effort, showing commitment to projects that positively impact the community.
Three Nights of Musical Diversity
This year’s line-up aims to appeal across generations, encouraging families to dance together.
- Thursday, July 16: Urban Mood with performances from Don Omar, Myke Towers, Farruko, and Ivy Queen (sold out).
- Friday, July 17: Latin Mood featuring Chayanne, Olga Tañón, and Emily Estefan (limited tickets available).
- Saturday, July 18: Tropical Mood with Elvis Crespo and Sergio Vargas (limited tickets available).
