Entries have sold out, with a waiting list and over 60 participants eager to take part in the La Oliva Rally on 6 and 7 November. The 37th edition of this sporting event has set a new record for participation in motor racing across the Archipelago. This year’s competition has gained international acclaim, featuring drivers like Yohan Rossely and co-driver Arnaud Dunand, who will be vying for the top spot on the dirt tracks.
This unprecedented event in the history of motorsport on the island is made possible by the collaboration between La Oliva Council, led by Gleiber Carreño in the Sports Department, the Fuerteventura Cabildo, the United Clubs of Fuerteventura, and the various sportspeople and federations involved.
As is tradition, the event will pay tribute to notable local drivers and co-drivers. This year, it will celebrate the achievements of Luis Ascanio Hierro and his co-driver Arcadio Hernández Morales, both former competitors from the municipality.
Mayor Isaí Blanco emphasised the significant transformation of the rally during his term, stating, “After a period of inactivity, this event has evolved into an international competition, showcasing the importance of motor sports in our municipality and throughout Fuerteventura. We invite everyone to enjoy the show stages and the rally on 6 and 7 November.”
Meanwhile, Sports Councillor Gleiber Carreño said, “Our local drivers will be the driving force, making this event a pivotal moment for off-road rallying on the island and across the Archipelago.”
Sports adviser Luis González added that “as part of the Fuerteventura Cabildo’s roadmap, this year marks a significant improvement with a strong commitment to rally events, with the La Oliva Rally serving as a prime example of this progress.”
