The San Antonio Chapel in Tías is currently hosting the “PAMANA” painting exhibition, featuring works from Filipino artist Monchi. The recent opening was attended by Tías’ Councillor for Culture, Pepa González Díaz.
The term “pamana” translates to “heritage” in Filipino, and the exhibition showcases a collection of portraits that reflect the culture and history of the Philippines. Monchi’s work delves into themes of memory, belonging, and cultural legacy, inviting viewers to consider the roots that unite us.
During the opening, Councillor González Díaz praised the transformative power of art and emphasised the crucial role of community participation in cultural activities. “Engaging with culture is essential for mental and spiritual health,” she commented, asserting that the exhibited pieces would alter visitors’ perspectives.
This exhibition marks Monchi’s first solo show, featuring various artworks created during her initial years in Lanzarote. Through her portraits, she intends to convey that “each face tells a story,” encouraging closer examination from the audience.
The exhibition will remain open for a month at the San Antonio Chapel’s prominent art space and will run until 5 December. Visiting hours are as follows:
- Monday to Friday: 08:00 – 14:00
- Thursday and Friday: 16:00 – 19:00
- Saturday: 10:00 – 14:00
