In a dramatic final day at the XXXV Canary Islands Championship of Latine Sailing Boats, Kevin Cabrera’s Tritón emerged victorious, dethroning the Di Napoli – Isidoro and Manuela III, who had led the competition for most of the event.

After dominating the first six races, the Di Napoli stumbled in two races on Sunday morning, allowing Tritón to seize the lead. Cabrera’s team adeptly navigated the light winds in Playa Blanca, ultimately securing the championship title.

Sunday’s races began under challenging conditions, with a lack of wind delaying the start of the seventh race. Once conditions improved, boats set off amid steady southeast gusts of 5 to 6 knots.

In the opening leg, Alfredo Morales’s Jameos del Agua and David Martín’s Romerito initially led the fleet. However, strategies changed following the first buoy, allowing Aythami Quintana’s Playa Dorada and Tritón to move to the front.

As the winds waned towards the end, navigating to the finish was difficult, but Playa Dorada managed to clinch victory, followed closely by Tritón. Jameos del Agua finished third, ahead of Isla de Fuerteventura and Romerito.

The final race was electrifying. Starting with a six-point lead, Di Napoli seemed set to claim the championship, until an early misstep cost them several positions. Despite a strong finish, they did not secure a place among the top nine.

In a thrilling climax, Jameos del Agua won the final race, followed by Graciplus and then Tritón. Cabrera and his crew awaited Di Napoli’s final position, anxiously watching as they failed to finish in the top nine.

Ultimately, Kevin Cabrera and Tritón were crowned champions of the Canary Islands. Di Napoli finished the championship in second place, while Jameos del Agua secured third. Graciplus and Playa Blanca rounded out the top five.

The championship was organised by the Canary Federation of Latine Sailing Boats, in cooperation with the island federations of Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, and Gran Canaria, alongside various local sponsors.
