The Canary Islands Government has issued a weather alert for heavy rain in La Palma and Tenerife, starting from midnight on Sunday, 1 November. This decision follows information from the State Meteorological Agency and aligns with the Specific Emergency Plan for Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA).
The alert covers the western slopes and summits of La Palma, as well as the metropolitan area of Tenerife. El Hierro, La Gomera, and the remaining areas of La Palma and Tenerife will remain on pre-alert status, as will Gran Canaria.
The start time for the warning has been moved forward to midnight on Sunday. On that day, heavy rainfall is expected, potentially exceeding 30 mm in an hour in La Palma’s higher altitudes and Tenerife’s metropolitan area. Other areas in La Palma and Tenerife, along with El Hierro, La Gomera, and Gran Canaria, may see over 15 mm of rain in an hour, with sporadic downpours.
Instability persists into Monday, 2 November, with additional rainfall anticipated, possibly extending into the early hours of Tuesday, 3 November. There is little expectation of widespread impact on Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, though Gran Canaria may experience significant rain on Sunday.
The situation remains uncertain regarding the location, intensity, and duration of the rain, and updates may follow as necessary. The Directorate General of Emergencies will continue to monitor conditions.
Residents are urged to follow the safety advice provided by the Directorate General of Emergencies here. Further information on the alert is available in this document.
