Teodoro Sosa, the candidate for Congress from Las Palmas representing CC-Primero Canarias, has urged citizens to champion the islands’ interests in the upcoming general elections. He expressed concern over the ideological polarisation introduced by other parties.
“It’s not the time to discuss ideological trenches when the needs of the Canary Islands are a priority. Issues like housing, service improvements, bilateral agreements, and our historical competencies are at stake. We must not take a step back; we have much to gain or lose,” Sosa stated during the presentation of his party’s electoral lists to the Provincial Electoral Board.
The nationalist candidate highlighted the importance of municipal parties joining CC on a unified list, aiming to regain representation in both the Congress of Deputies and the Senate for Las Palmas. “This is a historic step,” said Sosa, who also serves as the mayor of Gáldar in Gran Canaria. He believes that, in light of political polarisation, prioritising local needs and rights is crucial. “Raising our voices now matters more than any time in our democratic history.”
He cautioned against the real threats of regression and decentralisation, warning of potential losses of individual and historical rights achieved through the efforts of Canary nationalism.
Responding to surveys suggesting his party might fail to win seats in Congress, Sosa remained confident. “We will have a voice there; I feel it on the streets. Our party rarely shows in polls, often conducted far away without understanding our local realities,” he remarked.
Throughout the electoral campaign, CC-Primero Canarias will address citizens’ needs directly, as Sosa emphasised that “no one else will bring a Canary Islands-focused programme or explain the unique challenges we face regarding coasts, airports, ports, migration, and funding. These are the citizens’ true concerns.”
